Summer: From July through September, Laytonville experiences high temperatures ranging between 80º – 90º with lows in the 40s. Residents seeking a reprieve from the heat swimming in the local Eel River or taking a short drive via Branscomb Road to the coast, where they can enjoy a cool ocean breeze.
Fall: As October arrives, temperatures drop, marking the beginning of the rainy season. Laytonville receives approximately 50 inches of rain annually, mainly between October and April. The fall season is a popular time for residents to embark on a scenic journey on the local Skunk Train, offering breathtaking views from nearby Willits to the coast.
Winter: Situated at 1,670 feet above sea level, Laytonville sees around 2 inches of snow per year. Cancellations due to weather are rare but eagerly anticipated by local school kids.

Education
Public School: Laytonville's education is overseen by the Laytonville Unified School District, educating 350 students from transitional kindergarten (TK) through high school.
Traditional schools include Laytonville Elementary (K-8) and Laytonville High School (9-12).
Laytonville High School also has a dual enrollment program where by students can attend community college concurrent with their high school studies.
Mendocino College is a public community college headquartered in Ukiah, California with several satellite campuses. Mendocino College also provides a robust online programs for remote residents.
